well, i'm kind of late with the posting, so apologies yeah (:

personally, i feel that this whole trip has been a very memorable one

and that every single thing we did has a special place in my heart! (aww..)

if i had to choose the most memorable moment i had during this trip,

it has got to be the 3 days we spent at St. Leonard's College.

ehem-ehem, not because of the pretty boys we met ^^

but because of the things that i've learnt
about the people and how the education system works in Australia.

My most memorable day: Woon Hui

My most memorable day is the day at the Phillip's Island. I have never seen a penguin before. However, I was quite disappointed when I was told that we were not allowed to take pictures. I was touched when the tourguide took off her winter coat for Sarah and told her that it would be very cold. She also told us that the last group she took here was so cold that they brought the hotel's blankets. Haha. I will definitely remember this day till the day I die.

My most memorable moment during the trip was on our

last day at St Leonards College.I find that our music and drama

performance is the most memorable one as all of us did a good job

despite the training which was done on the first day.

At that point of time all of us just got to know each other but we managed

to co-operate with each other and produce a good drama performance

and music that is not out of tune.When my group was presenting our form of art,

someone's music instrument slipped from her hand and that invited laughter from the crowd

that made my nervousness gone and she also forgot to beat her instrument when she was

supposed to.For me, personally, i think she ruined everything up but it's ok i bet it's her

first time playing a musical instrument.I did forgive her as i know she did put in effort

and try her best.

My most memorable moment: Ruchita

My most memorable moment was when we had gone to the Dandenong Ranges National Park up on the mountain. It was really cold up there and the birds... Sorry.. parrots were really beautiful. The memorable moment was when I was talking to Adam, Haizal and Arif. They all had just bought brand new boomerangs about two minutes ago and couldn't wait to try it out. Arif had gone first by throwing it lightly, however, it didn't work out. Adam was extremely over confident and had literally flung it with force. The wind then turned his boomerang in the opposite direction, hit the bus and it promptly snapped into two. It was so funny that all four of us couldn't stop laughing. Later, we shared the incident with everybody and we were glad that everybody had a good laugh. That was one of my most memorable moments.

My Most Memorable Moment♥ : Dayang

Hello everyone! ~

After seeing all the fantastic scenery and St. Leonard's College, I feel that the most memorable moment was when i was at Warrook Farm.

I could still remember that we all had to leave at around 8AM.It was a long trip to Warrook Farm.As soon as we arrived, the first animal that caught my eyes was the KANGAROO!!

They are simply adorable and cute.We were even given a chance to feed them.There were many other animals such as the hens,ducks and emu but the one that I can't take my eyes off the most was the KANGAROOs.

Later on,I got a chance to sit on hay.I never thought of being able to finally sit on it before.Then the tour guide at Warrook Farm brought us to the area where they kept all the sheep.I discovered something new- " The dogs command the sheep,NOT humans! "

Then they brought us in the shed.We saw many machines and most importantly wool everywhere.They showed how the sheep was sheared.

Then I managed to get some wool to bring back.Their wool is as white as flour.The wool is then graded depending on some criteria whether in AAA or AA or A.

It interests me because there's none of this in Singapore.Therefore, I feel that is is my most memorable moment.

Saying our thank yous and farewell to Leonardians on our last day.

I wonder why good things always have to come to an end. The St. Leonard's College really saved the best for last. On the last day, we staged some scenes from Shakespeare's 'Macbeth.' It was the first time we were exposed to Shakespeare's works as only Pure Literature students get to study Shakespeare in Evergreen. It was such a fantastic experience!

In the afternoon, we went to the computer lab to blog and then had lunch. For the next programme, the Evgians were separated. Some of them chose to be in a volleyball match against the Leonardians whereas the rest of them opted to attend a ballroom dance class.

The Evgians won 2 out of 3 volleyball matches, we're so proud of ourselves! Those who took the dance class, learnt how to 'Cha-Cha'!!! It's just too bad that none of the male Evgians learnt the dance steps or we'll definitely teach the rest of the Evgians when we come back to school! It's such an absolutely fun day today!!!

Today is also the last day and many of us took our last photos at St. Leonard's. We exchanged e-mails and contact numbers. I'm sure all of us are going to miss Melbourne and we are definitely bringing back wonderful memories, knowledge and different perspectives back to Singapore!

This is 'Chocolates' and we would like to show our appreciation and gratitude to the people who have been with us throughout this journey. First of all, we would like to express our thanks to our wonderful teachers, Mrs. Raj, Ms. Mazlinda and Mr Ratish for everything because without them, we would not have been able to go on this trip.

We would also like to give thanks to our wonderful guides, Ms. Louisa and Ms. Jane for taking care of us and making sure we were well-fed. Mr Darren is one who we should thank as well because without him, we would not have been able to see the various beautiful places around Melbourne, Australia. Not to forget, we thank Ms. Jytte for guiding us for the first 2 days as we would not have known a lot about Australia without her guidance.

We would also like to give many thanks to the teachers from St. Leonard's College, Mrs. B, Mrs Newman and Mrs Avery for making us feel welcomed. We would not have interacted and got to know more about the students without them. We must also thank the Leonardians who are so friendly and made us feel really comfortable throughout the 3 days of school.

This is our fifth day in Melbourne and it is also the last day at St' Leonard's College. We just had a drama-sharing lesson for two periods. Some of us went to the Drama Class and some went to the Music Class. It was fun to act out the different characters and play the musical instrument. It is also amazing to see how one scene can be interpreted differently, either musically or through dramatization. After that, we had a group discussion to compare and contrast the similarities and differences between Australia and Singapore. We certainly learnt a lot from St. Leonard's College.

We would like to thank our coach driver, Mr. Darren and our tour guides, Ms. Louisa and Ms. Jane for helping us get around Melbourne with ease and comfort. We are very grateful to our teachers, Ms. Mazlinda, Mrs. Raj and Mr. Ratish for taking care of us and for organising this trip. We will always remember our group teacher, Ms. Mazlinda for sharing happy moments with us during lunch and dinner.

We would also want to thank St. Leonard's College's principal, teachers and students for being superb hosts and for their gracious hospitality. We are touched that the school gave us souvenirs to bring home too!

Overall, we feel that the 3 days at St. Leonard's is a great experience and an absolute eye-opener. We will be leaving tomorrow and many of us can't bear to leave Australia. However, there are also some who are already home-sick and can't wait to go back and meet their loved ones. It has been one memorable trip of which we are very fortunate to be given the opportunity to partake in. THANK YOU!!!

Hello everyone!

For all the days and time I spent in Melbourne, I think the most memorable time I had was in St.Leonard's.

In the school, we had discussions on S'pore and Mel', staged a part of the play of Shakespeare's Macbeth, watched movies on Australia's history, learnt ballroom dance, attended art class,

had the chance to visit the school's personal farm

and made friends!

Throughout the days, I learnt a lot from the teachers and students there.I hope all of us will keep contact and these memories and experiences will stay with me forever!

G' day mates!

I am going to share with all of you about my most memorable moment in Melbourne. I felt that my most memorable moment is when we were having a tour around the St' Leonard's College. I was fascinated as their school campus is very big. They even have a wetland somewhere part of the school where it is a home for those birds around that area.

They also have animals in the school compound. We saw white and black llamas grazing the grass!

They also reserved a spot for growing and harvesting of crops. While the students from St' Leonard's College were harvesting their crops, some of us helped out too. Later, they started to have a veggie fight!

I'm starting to miss Melbourne already!

WELCOME BACK everyone!

The students and teachers are back in Singapore! From what I've seen, many have bought loads of chocolates and souvenirs to give out to family and friends, especially on the last day when we were at Victoria Market. I'm sure the students, like me, have missed the cold weather and wearing chic winter clothing.

I will post up the final Group entries as soon as I have free time (I have a lot of work to complete before Monday).

Anyway, here is my final task for the Evgians who were in Melbourne...

Macbeth - Chocolates!

G'day Mates!

This is Chocolates! and we're going to update you with what we've done so far. We've just completed our play on Macbeth. We were split into the "Music and Drama" groups and performed for the students in the St. Leonard's College.

Before we performed, we were given time to ready ourselves for the big play! So after practicing, the drama students went into the music room where the music students were waiting for their turn to perform.
We took alternate turns with the drama and music groups. It was good to see all of our group members performing, be it through music or through drama. We had Hui Xia,Liyana,Haizel,Joyce and Wardah did musical performances, with Stella, Xun Kai and Swee Qi doing the drama. It was hilarious to see Stella dressed up as a witch with her eerie laugh (It went "Mwahahaha!"). It was also funny to see one of St. Leonard's students, Tim the "Big"(Really, He is big), cross-dressed as a witch. The performances were very impressive!

Anyway, I heard that we may be taking a tour around the school and have a game of volleyball with the students from St. Leonards....we're definitely looking forward to those. Sad though, that this is our last day here... I'm gonna miss this school, it's amazing!

Ok, that's the post for today, maybe the last of our group posts too, since we are leaving tomorrow. I can't believe that we've spent 5 days here already. Melbourne is really cool, and I don't just mean the weather!

Last day in St.Leonard's

Hello everyone!
Today's the last day in the school, and I can't help feeling a little sad. For the few days that I was in school, I really had fun with the students there.I watched movies on Australia, had discussions with the students, put up a play, and even took up an art class!

I used to hate art before this and I must confess that I can't even draw a person properly!
But after the art lesson at St. Leonard's, it really gave me a whole new perspective about art.

The rest of the EVGians also had fruitful days at St.Leonard's. They attended history classes, took up gardening and many more.
The teachers-in-charge said that if it weren't for St. Leonard's who agreed to host us, all of us wouldn't be here.
I think, if it weren't for the school visit to St.Leonards, I wouldn't be who I am now, at this moment.

Hello , this is Group A !
Currently blogging for GroupA is Farishah, Rinna, Dayang and Adam and supervising us as always is Ms Maz!

So, today is our last day at St. Leonard's College and we are having a fun and great time.
For the first period, we had to perform a scene from Shakespeare's MacBeth. We were split into two different groups, either music or drama.

In music, we basically had to work together in a group to come up with a suitable piece of music for the scene that we have personally chosen to work on. We also had to experiment with a few different instruments and we also got to use aboriginal Australian music instruments, which is cool ! In drama,we chose a scene and had to act it out with the Leonardians. The thrilling part of everything was to dress up like the characters in the play. It was a joyful time watching our group dressed up and performed in front of everyone.

We took turns to perform and every group did a fantastic job! Well Done everyone!!!

Our time is almost up for blogging. Soon, we will be playing volleyball against our hosts. This is an Australia Vs. Singapore Match just like the Olympics. We'll be hearing lots of "Ouch, Ouch, EE, OO, OW!" and our hands will be red and in pain. But it's all worth it because this is so exciting!

We are looking forward to our tour around the school and exchanging of souvenirs with the Leonardians. We have specially brought keychains from Singapore to give to our new found friends. We also want to exchange our e-mail addresses so as to maintain contact with each other.

We'll be going back home tomorrow and we hope to see our family members at the airport.

Group B: Our last day in St Leonard's College

Today is going to be the most memorable day of our lives.We were supposed to perform a skit and music based on MacBeth.We were divided into groups of either music or drama.It was really fun for the past few days.The weather was nice but super cold and windy. We get to use different types of musical instruments and it was really fun for the drama group as we got to wear colourful clothes and hats.After that, we were given a school magazine published for the 20th anniversary of their school. The school magazine includes creative writing and poems from poetry competition written by their own students. But we were surprised when we saw that the poems were actually written by students from primary school! The poems were amazing, and the magazine also includes the achievements of students in sports. Bye for now as we are off for our afternoon programme! =]

SECOND DAY AT ST. LEONARD'S COLLEGE

Good day mates! We are from group B and we are going to share with you how our day has been. It was the same windy morning in Melbourne for day 4 of our trip. We received the wake-up call as early as 5.30 and had some breakfast at the hotel restaurant. However, some of the Muslims pupils could not go for the breakfast because they were obviously fasting. Shortly after that, we boarded the bus and had a long bus ride to school. When we first reached school, we were divided into different groups for different classes and subjects. These subjects are 2WL (What lifetime? and What learning?), Permaculture, ICT (information communication technology).
Permaculture is a subject which enables us to get a close-up look at animals and plants. For example, we were able to see a real-life alpaca just 1 meter away from us! (we apologise for the lack of pictures. In between the classes, we had a short break that lasted for 20 minutes. During the break, we walked around the school to check the facilities out. Every room in this school has a wireless connection.
The school is quite cool because we are able to use the laptop and do research in the class. It was really quite interesting to see what an Australian school looks like and the way Australian students study in class. We can’t wait for the next day to begin!

Chocolates! - Day 4

Day 4 – St. Leonard’s College

What’s up people?

We do apologize for the late post for Day 3. The new hotel we have moved into doesn’t have wireless Internet connection, and the broadband connection they have in the hotel isn’t very good.

We’ll also post the pictures a lot later, we still have problems attaching our photos to our blog. I think that’s how it is for all of us.

On a brighter note, this is Group Chocolates and this is the blog for Day 4!:)

First of all, we have moved to a new hotel! We moved to the “Grand Mercure” hotel Monday night. The room was much better than the previous one and some of us had a bigger room (well, I think that’s just my room, the rest have smaller rooms I think). In fact, I also think the teachers’ rooms looks very cramped – just like a store room!The hotel had a laundry room as well (How awesome is that! $1 dollar, and our clothes are clean again). We got up earlier this time as we did not want to be late for school. When we arrived, we went to the “Common Room” and waited for Ms. B (a teacher of St. Leonard’s College) to break us up into the different classes. These classes included English and History, as well as Economics and Desktop Publishing (They were amazing subjects).

We got to learn a lot of different things while we were there as well. What was pretty awesome about the school was that everyone got to use laptops and lucky for us, we got to do some work on them. We had a short break at eleven and after that and continued with different classes. We then had Art, Business and Permaculture. Permaculture pertains to gardening and rearing of animals. It was pretty cool to know that the school had a farm! Most of the group members had a chance to get to see the beautiful farm. The farm had some animals like the alpaca, which helped protect the sheep and cows from the foxes. It was really cool that the school had a farm as part of its compound.

In fact, some of the students who went for the Art class got to learn and try silkscreen printing. The artwork of our students was awesome, and Mr Ratish has the pictures. In fact, their school is very well utilized as an art gallery too. Paintings, prints, wearable art, installation art….it’s all over the school!:) Well, that’s it for today. Tomorrow is the last day at St. Leonard’s, though I wish we could stay a little longer.

Day 2 at St Leonard's College (Group A)

At around 8.55am we arrived at St.Leonard’s College, bright and early, all ready to learn!Ms. B split us into 4 groups-Arts, Economy, History, English and Perma-Culture and then we went and joined the Year 8’s Class.

Mrs. Beth taught us about the history of the Whitehouse that can help us to understand ‘To Kill a Mocking Bird’ more. They are similar in which both show the discrimination of the blacks. We also discussed how racial segregation and discrimination will be detrimental to society.

Later on, we were told to sit with the Australian students and together, we did the interview of ancient people like Cleopatra and we also did a research on Middle Ages.

After the break, we were split into 4 groups again. We were told to go to the Perma-Culture class and we took a long walk around their farm. We saw 2 llamas and we took many photos of them.

Next, we went to see the ducks and hens. We also saw some vegetables that the student harvested such as cabbage, onions and many more.We went to have a look at their man-made wetlands. We also saw how the 7-year drought has affected the wetlands. The lack of rainfall has caused the wetlands to dry up. We also saw the many different olive plantation and we took photos of them. While walking around the farm, we met the other groups. We went back to the garden where some of the students had to help to harvest the vegetables.

Later, we will be having dinner at Chillipadi. We are really looking forward to a hot plate of rice and dishes.

p.s: After we have checked out of Citigate Hotel, uploading our blogs is not as easy as the first 2 days. There is no wireless connection at Grand Mercure Hotel but fortunately, we are able to use the desktops at St Leonard's College. The only downside is, we cannot upload pictures. =(

FIRST DAY AT ST LEONARD’S COLLEGE (Group B)

Today was a really interesting and eventful day. The first time we saw the students there, our first impression was that they were a group of studious pupils. However, I realized how difficult it was for me to interpret what they were saying as they were using the Australian lingo. Firstly, we introduced ourselves when we met our new group mates. They found our names Greek and had difficulty pronouncing them. We then had to draw out the mud map of Singapore and share the different attractions of Singapore with them while they had to share their knowledge about Melbourne with us. We were then given a few pictures taken in Singapore and Melbourne and we had to list down ten things we saw in the picture and then infer from it. We were touched to know that they did their research even before we came. The Year 10 students, being the most senior in the school, also have the privilege to hang out in their common rooms, where they can have lunch together, play table tennis, chit chat during break times and play cards! During lesson, all of us had a chance to write a Ballad (a poem that tells a story) together with the students from Melbourne. We found the students there very friendly and warm, and they are very patient! They explained things over and over again when some of us did not catch what the teachers were saying. The weather today was extremely windy, but the students there were hardly affected by it.
We hope that tomorrow would be a warmer day and we would have the same or even more fun than we had today. We can’t wait for tomorrow!

Our first day at St Leonard's College! (Group A)

G’ day mates!

After 2 nights’ stay at the Citigate hotel, we checked out in the early morning and moved off to St. Leonard’s College with our bulky luggage (Just joking, we left them in the bus).It was approximately an hour bus journey before we reached the college. We couldn’t contain our excitement when we saw the students of St. Leonard’s College.

When we entered the classroom, we immediately felt very comfortable as it was freezing cold on the outside. We were split into teams which made up of 3 Evgians and 3 students from St Leonard’s.

Our first lesson/task was to draw up a mud-map on ‘Where We Live’. As we know our own country well, we completed the mud-map very quickly. After which, we exchanged points about Singapore’s background.

(during their research to find what a durian looks like, the Leonardians were shocked to discover the 'No Durians in MRT Stations' signage.)

Following up was a task on ‘I see, I think, I wonder’. We were given pictures of both Melbourne and Singapore and we had to classify them accordingly. We also had to write down ten things we saw on the pictures and then come up with some questions that we wished to find resolutions to.

(that's Woodlands! so we spent time showing where our school and homes are at)

Soon, we were given around twenty minutes of break (which is our version of ‘recess’). We took this chance to see how the school is like and how the students behaved during their free time. Some of them played sports like table-tennis while others blasted music in the ‘common room’ but most of the students gathered indoors.

The picture below is of Ms Maz and the Muslim students who were fasting. Since they cannot eat during the break time, they decided to pose as golfers because the boys said they felt like Tiger Woods in our school blazers.

Imagine having your break with cool breeze in your hair and nature in the background. Simply splendid, I'll tell ya'!

“Time flies when we are having fun.” It was soon time for the second part of the lesson. We were introduced to the synopsis of Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’ and we have to dramatize one scene of the text on Wednesday. It was rather hard to read the scripts as there were many archaic words of the 17th Century. We then proceeded to the ‘Arts & Drama Room’ to rehearse the skit. After that, we ended the school programme for the day and proceeded back to the coach. It took another hour before we reached the city. Then, we went to check into another hotel for the next part of our stay in Melbourne.

We went shopping and then moved on to Chilipadi for dinner. The food at Chilipadi tasted good! We cleared almost every dish except the Cinnamon Beef as there were two dishes of beef and we even had to order another bowl of rice!

Feeling very contented, we went back to the hotel and took an hour rest. Then, we went down to the lobby for our daily debrief by our 3 teachers and went back to our room to work on our Travel Log. Today’s task is to focus on writing an original poem inspired by a setting that has captivated us especially after 2 days of sight-seeing.

We hope to make more friends at St. Leonard’s College and exchange ideas and learn more about their lifestyle and culture.

St Leonard’s Day 1 - Chocolates!

We checked out of our hotel, Citigate Melbourne, which we had stayed for two nights. All of us were dressed in our full school uniform, complete with blazer and a tie.

After that, we got on our coach and started a journey to St. Leonard College which took us an hour to reach. It was located at Cornish Campus we were welcomed by one of the teachers there Mrs. B (that what all her students call her). We were brought to a room which was about the same of Evergreen AVA room. The tables were arranged in a way that facilitated group work. We were split up into 8 groups, each group consisting of both students from St. Leonard’s and Evergreen. That gave us an opportunity to interact and get to know the students there. The students were in Year 10, and their ages range from 15- 17. They were all rather friendly, and made us feel welcome almost immediately. Even the shy ones amongst us felt very comfortable in that environment.

The theme of the lesson was ‘Where I lived represent who I am’. This lesson was introduced to us by Ms Newman, a teacher in their school. For the first task, from 9am to 11am, we were asked to do a Mud Map of our country. The students from St. Leonard’s had to draw Mud Maps of Melbourne. After drawing the maps, we then had to present it to our group members from St. Leonard’s, explaining various the places of interests that Singapore has. After that we were given a 20 minute break, the student introduced us to their common room outside their classroom. There was a microwave oven, toaster, a music player, cards, table tennis table and lots more inside the room. Some of the students even sat down to play a game of cards during those 20 minutes.

The next activity - ‘I see, I think, I wonder’. Pictures of areas in Singapore and Melbourne were given to us, we had to write down what we saw in each picture and what we thought of it. Finally, we had to write down what we wondered about that picture.

Our group then had to write a ballad/poem after that. The students at St.Leonard’s were very good at this. Rhyming was especially something that they are very good at. We watched in amazement as they quickly wrote really cool rhymes.

We had another break at 1.20pm for lunch. During lunch, a lot of students were playing in the open area in fron of the school. It was clear to see that the students of the school were closely-knit. The senior pupils seemed to be very comfortable playing with the really young ones.

After lunch, we were joined by more students for the Music & Drama class. We were spilt into the music groups and the drama groups. Each group then had to discuss and present a performance based on the Shakespearean play Macbeth. We’d even be given a chance to wear costumes for the performance, which would be done on Wednesday. By 3.20, lessons were over, and yet we still felt full of energy. The friends we made, the lessons that engaged us, it was such an eventful day. I can’t wait for tomorrow! :)

Day 2.... Sheep, Kangaroos and Penguins!

Day 2 – Chocolates!

Good day!

We are from Chocolates! Group (formerly Group C) and we’ll be updating you guys on what we did on Day 2. We started the day off with a simple buffet breakfast at the Citigate hotel where we’re staying at. After that, we got on our coach and started a journey to the “Warrock Cattle Farm” which took us an hour and fifteen minutes.

We got to feed kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and lots of ducks and chickens. Wardah, one of our group members, was scared when we got near some chickens. She told the rest of us that she feared getting bitten by them. After feeding the animals, we got on a truck and sat on loads of hay. It was fun, not just because we were sitting on hay, but because it was the first time most of us had ever seen it in real life (not surprising since we’ve lived in the city all our lives :)

We went to see a demonstration of how 2 sheepdogs skillfully controlled a flock of sheep by just barking and eye contact. So after the demonstration, we went to a shed where we got to see a farmer shear sheep.

The shed had a strong funny smell and it made us feel uneasy, especially the girls. After the shearing demonstrantion, we went to have an Australian lunch at the diner near the farm. We had a choice of having beef, chicken or both (I had both by the way :) It was awesome! Barbeque has never taste this good! After the lunch, the teachers gave us permission to shop at the souvenir shop nearby and also take some lovely photos of the flowers in the farm.

After shopping, we continued our journey to the “Koala Conservation Centre” where we has the opportunity to see some absolutely cute koalas up in the trees. After watching and taking photos of the wonderful animal, we went to a nearby town on Phillip Island. We went to the jetty and got a bird’s eye view of the ocean.

As we were walking back from the jetty, Haizel, one of our group members, and Adam (from group A) started singing to the song of R. Kelly, “I Believe I Can Fly”. It was humorous to see them flapping their hands, thinking that they would fly.

We then continued on to the “Nobbies Centre” and got to see an enchanting view of the ocean. It was such a sight to behold! The weather was extremely cold (10 degrees Celsius I think) and some of us could not take it even though we had three layers of clothes on!

After we went to the main event, “The Penguin Parade” at Phillip Island. We entered a building that seemed like a maze because it took us an age to find the viewing area J . We were told that the penguins would return home only at 6 in the evening as they would only appear when the sun sets. We got to see the amazing little penguins in groups walking back to their burrows. It was quite a sight, and also quite a sound too – the penguins made strange noises that sounded like snores! J Speaking of snores, by the time we were done with the show, we were dead tired! The only thoughts we had at that time were of our beds:) However, it was a fantastic day, something most of us never ever dreamed of experiencing in our lives! We can’t wait for tomorrow, I think we’ve never been this excited to go to school during our holidays! St. Leonard’s College…here we come!

31st August 2008, Animal day!

Greetings everyone!This is group B with Mrs Raj updating on our trip again!

Well, today, we got to have a close up view of the Australian animals!

The Kangaroo, Wallaby, Koala, Wombat, Emu, Sheep, Cattle, Horses, Ducks, Rabbits, Dogs and the Penguins!

At the Warrook Cattle farm, we saw how the sheep dogs controlled the flock of sheep!(They controlled them with their eye movements!) After that, it started raining cats and dogs, but we continued our activities still=)

Next, we saw how the sheep gets skinned for its wool, but don't worry, no harm was done to the sheep! (*mbek* Arif has a beard!)

In addition, we got to feast on Australian food. All of us had a choice of chicken, beef, or both. It was more than delicious! Here we are waiting for the food and the next picture is Food, Glorious Food! (Arif said that the Discipline Comm. should buy this whip sold at the souvenir shop to deter students from offences! yikes!)

The next stop was the Koala conservation centre.

Did you know that koala bears feed on the eucalyptus leaves but they don't get posioned? Koala bears' digestive systems are made to turn those toxins into energy for them instead of poisoning them!

And also, Koala bears are always sleepy and lazy because of the leaves they feed on. Just look at the koalas sleeping soundly in the rain!

Up next is the Nobbies center! (Phillips Island)

Perched on cliffs overlooking the waters of the Bass Strait(the sea), we got to have breathtaking views of the sea and seagulls!

The waves crashing towards the rocks on the shore was simply magnificent! We also learnt interesting facts about the seals over there. For example, did you know that the seals have dog-like characteristics?

Because Nobbies center is located near the sea, there are always huge gusts of land breeze freezing us all!

Some of us warmed up by drinking Hot Chocolate, while some of us ate ice cream again in the cold!

The last stop was the Penguin Parade!(Phillips Island) Some interesting facts about penguins:

-Penguins require 240 grams of fish a day to maintain their weight so that they can swim long distances and dive deep

-Penguins have been recorded diving up to 69 meters deep!

Over there, all of us got to see the little Penguins coming back to their nests from sea!!!

Sorry there are no pictures to post, as cameras are not allowed there because the flashes of the cameras will scare and even hurt the sensitive eyes of the penguins!

Yeah! The group A is back! It was a fulfilling day for all of us and we were all looking forward to share with all of you.

Firstly,we woke up at 6:30AM to have our breakfast and after the breakfast we were on our way to the Warrook Farm. There, we are able to interact with kangaroos, emus and ducks. Plus,we got to feed the animals. We also got the chance to catch the shepherd dogs in action. The 2 dogs were able to command the flock of sheep from one end to the other. It was also the first time for many of us to watch a sheep being skinned alive (just kidding, the sheep was sheared for its wool).

(Christmas came early for Adam!)

After lunch at Warrook Farm, we headed to the Koala Conservation Centre. Unfortunately, the moment we reached the centre, the rain poured heavily. It was really raining cats and dogs. We were freezing as the wind blew strongly at our faces. Luckily, 3 koalas were spotted up on the eucalypt trees. To add on to our luck, the koalas were awake. We were informed that the koalas sleep most of the time. We love the koalas because they look cute and cuddly.

We proceeded to the western tip of Phillip Island, The Nobbies and Point Grant to walk along the boardwalks and took many pictures of the silver gulls and jaw-dropping backdrop of the coastline. We were also anticipating the moment to watch the nightly crossing of the penguins. We witnessed the rafts of penguins waddling back to their burrows from the coastline. Visitors were warned strictly not to take any photographs of the penguins because they will be blinded by the flash of the cameras. Many blind penguins cannot survive in the water and were eaten up by sharks.

It was seafood dinner for all of us and that was when we officially appointed Hui Fang as our Ms. Caring. She graciously peeled prawns for the members of Group A. We also found out that Dayang is the only one in the group who is left-handed. Our Princess Diary is Farishah who is in charge of noting down details in her personal diary. Every night, Hwee Hwa, Rinna & Ms Maz will be the last to sleep because we are the Blog i/cs for Group A.

It was a sad moment tonight because our tour guide, Ms Jytte bade farewell as it was her last day with us. Goodbye Ms. Jytte (pron: Utah)! Hope to see you again!We have to sleep now because Ms Maz is fasting and has to wake up earlier than all of us. We also have to pack our luggage as we will be moving to another hotel. Tomorrow will be an enriching day as we will be going to school during September holidays!

First day in Melbourne

Good day mates!

We are from Group A and we are currently in Melbourne, Australia. Today, we had plenty of chances to sight-see. We started off the day with visiting the Immigration Museum. It was an informative visit where we got to learn the history of Australia.
Next, was the amazing structure of St Patrick's Cathedral. It's so huge and magnificent that it was simply beautiful. It must have taken a lot of architectural talent and effort to build such a massive structure.

What got many of us excited next was the ice-cream van parked at Fitzroy Garden! We wanted to eat ice-cream despite the cold. The pretty, colourful flowers at the Conservatory made our ice-cream tasted better.

We went to ChilliPadi for lunch and it was cool because we never expected so many dishes at one go!

After lunch, we went to the Blue Dandenong Ranges National Park. We saw the Australian KingParrot, Sulphur-Crested Cockatoo and the Crimson Rosella. We bought many souvenirs from there.

For dinner, we had Thai food at Alice's Thai and again there was so much food that we had to take-away the leftovers. Now we are here at Citigate Melbourne Hotel, sharing our day with all our friends and teachers.

We hope tommorow comes quick because we are going to see the penguins (not the kangaroos) come home.

The Chocolates! group - Hello Melbourne!

Yes, we are Group C no more. We have decided to rename ourselves Chocolates! for our love of chocolates:) By the way, Mr Ratish is the head of our group (yes, that handsome man in the picture on top...well, at least that's what he told us to say!). Joyce (3 Integrity) is the head of our group.

Our flight was pretty cool, some of us had not been a flight before, so it was quite an eye-opener. I think some of our hearts skipped a beat just before our plane took off! The flight was great (SIA flight..and a A380 plane to boot!:) Most of us slept through the flight though, as the flight was scheduled at midnight.

Once we got off the plane, the first difference just blew right in our faces. The wind sooo cold! Well, at least it was for us...the average temperature in Singapore ranges from 32-34 degrees Celsius.

However, we got used to the weather rather quickly. In fact, quite a few commented that they wished Singapore had similar weather:) No need for air-conditioning too...

Our tour guide Jytte (cool name!...she's originally from Denmark) brought us to many places of interest, and all of them were fabolous!

Firstly, we went to the Immigration Museum. Melbourne is a cosmopolitan city, and a large number of the population are immigrants or sons/daughters of immigrants. It's estimated that these immigrants come from 150 nations and speak 280 languages!

After the museum visit, we went to the Consevatory. It was beautiful. The flowers grown there were pictureresque, just postcard-perfect!:)

It was also clear how muticultural the city is. By just looking at the shops lined along the streets, we could see the wide variety of restaurants that served food from different cultures. Speaking of food, we ate our lunch and dinners at a Malay and Thai restaurant respectively. It sure felt like home during those meals:)

After lunch, we went to the Blue Dandenong range near Belgrave. This trip took an hour by coach. It was worth the trip though. The air was fresh, even though it was very cold:) And the highlight of that trip - parrots! There were several parrots there, and most of us got to feed them. We even got to buy some souvenirs at the shop there:) We then went for dinner after that.

Finally, after a whole day of travelling, we got to check in our hotels. It felt quite strange that the sun set at 6 pm. After all, it was 4 pm Singapore time:) We were tired, and we needed to sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a long day:)

On plane to our first day in Melbourne

Hello everyone! This is grp B, with Mrs Julia Raj.

The most memorable thing we thought about today is, the time when all of us went up to Blue Dandenong Ranges National Park. It's located in a mountaneous area, and we had to travel approximately one hour from the place we had our lunch.
When we were there, we had a chance to get a close up look of the different species of parrots found in Australia, we even got to feed them nuts off our hands!

The Galah, Mrs Raj's favourite! She loved it so much she bought a soft toy of it!

The temperature was rather low up there and everyone was shivering, although wrapped up like a mummy.
Even though the weather was cold, the students weren't.
Through simple actions like scooping rice for the rest of the groupmates, checking if one another was warm enough, all these really heated things up!
We expect that tommorow would also be a cold weather and we hope that all of us will be closer bonded as a group!

Before the actual trip, we think that we'll experience alot of bonding with our friends through the trip, having to live, eat, breathe together for a week!!
We think we'd also experience a 'heartache' of missing our friends and families in Singapore, not being able to see them in that period of time...

My thoughts on going.

After the confirmation of me being able to go to Melbourne, I had to scan my passport and find out my blood type.Waiting for my turn to get my blood test, I listened to music.When its my turn, I went through alot of pain as the needle was being inched into my veins.I told myself that all this is for the trip.When every procedure is completed,I left.

I apply this trip because can help us to widen our veiw of the world and improve our english.We are going to melbourne.It is at Australia.We learnt how to blog and also go through briefing.I would experience the different weather.I would leanrt more about their culture.Hope to see more things that we normally cant get to see...XD

What do you think you would experience?

->For me I would like to experience coming into contact with different animals(for example kangaroos,crocodiles,koala bears and many more),the weather over there,the types of food over there(even though I will be fasting),what the people would be like to us over there and their culture.Most of all i would like to know more about Austrailia!!

I had to firstly, go to the health promotion board to test my blood for my blood type. They took out three tubes of blood and then I found out my blood type. I had experienced a lot of pain as the needle slowly inched into my vein. OWWW!! I then had to choose my clothes which was torturous! What must we wear? Whats the weather like there? I had to choose clothse according to that kind of agenda. I had several weird impulses in choosing some clothes. Next, I had to make sure my partner was trustful enough and is not the person to wake up screaming her lungs out in the middle of the night just cause she had nightmares.
